How Long Does it Take to Get a Dental Bridge?

If you have dealt with extensive tooth decay or injury, leaving you with a gap in your smile, you may be looking for a good replacement. At Playa Family Dentistry, we provide our patients with dental bridges in Carrollwood as an effective and natural-looking way to restore their smiles.

Dental bridges are an excellent treatment option for those with missing teeth, but they aren’t the best choice for everyone. Read on to learn more about the process of getting a dental bridge and if this treatment option can benefit you.

    What Are Dental Bridges?

Like their name suggests, dental bridges near you work to “bridge” the gap left behind by missing teeth. A dental bridge is composed of several dental crowns fused together, with a replacement tooth in the middle. The dental crowns are attached to the healthy teeth on each side of the gap, and the middle artificial tooth effectively replaces the missing tooth.

There are many kinds of dental bridges, such as:

    • Traditional dental bridges
    • Maryland bridges
    • Implant-supported bridges
    • Cantilever bridges

When you visit a dentist in Carrollwood, they will perform a comprehensive evaluation of your mouth and determine what kind of bridge is best for your needs.

    How Are Dental Bridges Placed?

One major concern that individuals have when getting a dental bridge is how long the procedure will take. It typically takes two visits to a dentist near you to get your bridge completely placed.

The procedure for getting a dental bridge is relatively simple and painless. Before starting the procedure, our dentist will apply a numbing agent to your mouth to ensure that you do not feel any discomfort or pain. Once your mouth is numb, our dentist will file down the teeth surrounding the gap. These teeth will be filed down enough to fit the dental crowns over them. These crowns will anchor the artificial tooth in the gap. Our dentist will take impressions of your filed down teeth to create your custom bridge. This process will take about two weeks, and you will be fitted with a temporary bridge in the meantime.

When your custom bridge is ready, you will be invited back to the dental office to have your permanent bridge placed and adjusted, so it fits perfectly within your bite. The bridge and replacement tooth are designed to look, feel, and function just like a natural tooth.

    Caring for Your Dental Bridge

Many people are surprised to find out that looking after and maintaining a dental bridge is no different from the care they already provide for their natural teeth. After the dental bridge is placed, you will need to continue brushing your teeth twice a day and flossing at least once daily. This will prevent tooth decay from occurring around the dental bridge and keep the rest of your mouth in excellent shape.

In addition to brushing and flossing daily, you will need to schedule regular dental cleanings and exams with a dentist at least once every six months. During these visits, your dentist can professionally clean your teeth and check for any issues with your dental bridge.

If you are interested in getting a dental bridge, please do not hesitate to contact our dedicated team of dental professionals at Playa family Dentistry. We are happy to help you restore your smile and boost your confidence.
